*  A short ride away from the apartment, and enroute to the main canal, is San Giorgio.  There are no crowds, and the view from the bell tower is spectacular.  We were fortunate to catch a wonderful sunset here, too.

*  San Giorgio is on its own little island, La Giudecca.  In addition to the church, residential neighborhoods as well as a resort are here.  A marina adjacent to the church serves the island, and it appears that the Guardia Finanzia (Customs Police) are stationed here also.

*  An elevator goes to the bell tower for a nominal fee.  However, word of wise to the caution - it's a small tower and one really doesn't want to be in the bell tower at the top of an hour.
